The texture and easy groove of the music on that album must have agreed with him, because here, on Lovin' Feeling, he shines by indulging in the smooth grooves with a funkier hand on his fret board. The mood is decidedly a jazzy one, with chunky bits of funk and groove thrown into a smooth, silky mix.

Mellow, smooth as the finest silk and funky all in one package brought to you by Mr. Phil Upchurch. Not a bad track on this release and very cohesive sequence of compositions. The album is something I would play on a Sunday morning right before or after Miles Davis Kind of Blue. The music here is on par with George Benson's and Eric Gale's mid 1970s material. I am just surprised with this much talent Upchurch never received the recognition of some of his peers.
