Absolutely Live is the first live album by American rock band the Doors, released July 20, 1970 by Elektra Records. The double album features tracks recorded at concerts held between July 1969 at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood and May 1970 at the Cobo Arena in Detroit. The album included the first full release of the performance piece "Celebration of the Lizard" and several other tracks that had not previously appeared on any official Doors release. At one point, lead singer Jim Morrison can be heard alluding to his prior arrest at a performance in Miami on March 1, 1969. However, most of the tracks were taken from the Doors' performances at the Felt Forum in New York City on January 17 and 18, 1970. In 2000, the Bright Midnight record company ( group) began releasing all of the uncut shows that had been recorded for the Absolutely Live album. Spanning from July 1969 to May 1970, these releases consisted of: Live at the Aquarius Theatre (1969); Live in New York (1970); Live in Boston 1970; Live in Philadelphia '70; Live. in Pittsburgh 1970; and Live in Detroit (1970).

Live in New York is a six-disc box set of the final four concerts performed by The Doors on January 17 and 18, 1970 at the Felt Forum in New York City. All four shows were mixed and mastered by the band's long-time engineer, Bruce Botnick, who recorded a number of shows from their 1970 tour. While most of the music in the collection has never been released, a few songs appeared on the 1970 release, Absolutely Live and in the 1997 box set. Elektra. I'm 38, so I didn't get the pleasure of seeing the doors live. Crank it up &This album played after "absolutely live" is as close as one can get, I'd like to think. The Doors played 4 shows at Felt NY in January 1970 - this is the first of these shows to have a vinyl release. Here's hoping the others will as well.

When Madison Square Garden opened in 1968, the theater inside was known as the Felt Forum, in honor of then president Irving Felt. In the early 1990's, at the behest of then-owner Paramount Communications, the theater was renamed the Paramount after the Paramount Theatre in Times Square had been converted to an office tower. The theater received its next name of The Theater at Madison Square Garden in the mid-90's, after Viacom bought Paramount, and sold the MSG properties. The four shows were recorded on January 17th and 18th, 1970, with both days featuring early and late gigs at New York’s Felt Forum (the adjunct venue next to Madison Square Garden now called the WaMu Theatre). After playing Madison Square Garden in 1969, the Doors opted for the Felt Forum to showcase their then-new album Morrison Hotel. It was more intimate, and you could feel the audience more, drummer John Densmore said in a statement. There was more interaction, and the acoustics were much better, because it was designed for music

My favorite DOORS live boxset. These shows are just wild and brilliant...
When are Rhino going to re-release this on 6CD? I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a sealed copy!
