Rudolf Walter Richard Hess (Heß in German; 26 April 1894 – 17 August 1987) was a German politician and a leading member of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) of Nazi Germany. Appointed Deputy Führer to Adolf Hitler in 1933, Hess served in that position until 1941, when he flew solo to Scotland in an attempt to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom during World War II. He was taken prisoner and eventually convicted of crimes against peace, serving a life sentence until his suicide.
Rudolf Hess was Hitler's right hand man during 1930s but became marginalised. He mysteriously flew to Scotland in May 1941 in a bid to get Britain to negotiate. The Nazi was captured and sentenced to life at Spandau prison, west Berlin. Fascinating final pictures of Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess have been found and put on sale along with a note to his son about his mysterious flight to Britain to try to end the war. The never-before-seen images show the former deputy Fuhrer as a frail and elderly man in the grounds of the infamous Spandau Prison. Hess spent 41 years in the West Berlin jail after the war, when he was convicted of crimes against peace and sentenced to life behind bars. The Nazi hanged himself aged 93 in 1987 in the summer house that had been built for him in the grounds.
Rudolf Hess was an original member of Hitler’s notorious Nazi Party and one the most powerful officials of the regime in Germany. He started his career in the party as Hitler’s private secretary and rose to the rank of Deputy Führer in 1939. At that time, the only person in the Nazi Party who was more influential with Hitler was Hermann Göring, the president of the Reichstag. Yet Hess evidently wasn’t very satisfied with the direction in which Nazi Germany was heading.

By trying to understand Rudolf Hess and his loyalty to Hitler, Dicks hoped to glean useful insights into what was seen as the collective madness of the Nazi leadership. In the media, Hess had appeared square-jawed and strong, often pictured striding side-by-side with Hitler. In the flesh, that illusion was soon shattered. The first impression is undoubtedly of a schizoid psychopath," Dicks wrote in the notebook, which has only recently been made public by his family.
DESCRIPTION: This is a photo album that was put together by a lady who lived in the town of Berchtesgaden and was an early NSDAP member. She was a most respected party member and highly thought of by all the SS guards, Gestapo agents, and SD personnel. This is reflected vividly as one observes how close she was able to get to the Führer and other leaders for her candid photographs. The pictures are astounding and incredible not for quality or posing but because they are candid by a person who might have been one of the very few that would have been allowed such closeness and familiarity. The lady who left this album after her death closely guarded her identification even to the man she willed the wonderful album to. He identified her to me because he knew I could be trusted to keep her (and his) secret.
