I don't think "Eight Oh Eight" is as good as "28 After", but they are very similar in tone, sound, and production. Once again, all the songs are about the same length, and very similar to each other in sound, but it's still easy to listen to the whole thing all the way through and be entertained. I guess this is disco but it's the weirdest disco I've ever heard and some of the best too. Space disco for driving to the nightclub I think. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

As a result, Eight Oh Eight is probably the loosest, most varied (both from track to track and within each track), and funkiest Black Devil release - even if those distinctions are fairly slight. The production here is notably slicker, though, which is not especially a positive development: the record sounds more modern, but it's also a lot more faceless, lacking much of the amateurish charm and quirkiness which made the first two albums so endearing to out-disco acolytes

Eight Oh Eight functions as a culmination of this three-piece arc not by issuing an ultimate artistic statement but rather showing that there’s not much else to say. The swirling synths and endearingly goofy processed vocals still have that Hannett-style cavern shimmer, the disco hi-hats still glisten above the impossibly dense production, and the tracks still unspool in an a near-vertiginous circular whirl. Ultimately Black Devil Disco Club’s three-album oeuvre is basically one Autobahn-style epic jam, the form of which is contained in nuce in the first two minutes of the first song. Not that there’s anything wrong with that: Fevre’s managed to strike an artistic current that runs deep enough to allow him to play out to great effect all manner of its permutations.
Like it’s predecessors ‘Eight Oh Eight’ features 6 tracks all with the trademark Black Devil sound but now even more haunting and bizarre. If the last album was like ‘Giorgio Moroder meets Joy Division’ then this one is like ‘Salvador Dali meets Cerrone’, surrealistic disco for space cadets. Totally unique, yet disturbingly familiar and all with that ‘sinister, psychedelic, analogue throb’ that moves you like no other.
