Welcome to the Pleasuredome is the debut studio album by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, first released by ZTT and Island Records on 29 October 1984. Originally issued as a vinyl double album, it was assured of a UK chart entry at number one due to reported advance sales of over one million. The album was also a top ten seller internationally in countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, and New Zealand.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome is FGTH’s fourth single, their first not to reach in their homeland of the UK. It peaked at kept from the top spot by the Philip Bailey/Phil Collins song Easy Lover in early 1985. It reached the top 20 in five other European countries and peaked at in the US. On its namesake album, the track is an epic – over 13 minutes long – and is sometimes listed as Snatch Of Fury/Welcome To The Pleasuredome. Snatch Of Fury represents the opening line, which is a vocal snippet from FGTH’s cover of Jerry Marsden’s 1964 hit Ferry Cross The Mersey

Strip away all the hype, controversy, and attendant craziness surrounding Frankie - most of which never reached American shores, though the equally bombastic "Relax" and "Two Tribes" both charted well - and Welcome to the Pleasuredome holds up as an outrageously over-the-top, bizarre, but fun release. Less well known but worthwhile cuts include by-definition-camp "Krisco Kisses" and "The Only Star in Heaven," while . smash "The Power of Love" is a gloriously insincere but still great hyper-ballad with strings from Anne Dudley

Notes

℗&© 1984 ZTT (or Zang Tuum Tumb)
Manufactured and distributed by Island
Disc made in U.K. by PDO

UK pressing, featuring the Island Records "rainbow" on CD spine.
Island Records logo appearing on CD case spine, back cover and disc is circled with following text: manufactured and distributed by Island Records.

"CID 101 stands shoulder to shoulder with ZTTIQ 1 (the record) and ZCIQ 1 (the cassette), at number four in Zang Tuum Tumb's fishy Action Series. 'Ain't That Peculiar'."

The master index on the back cover and the tracklisting printed in booklet and on disc are inaccurate, listing 13 tracks; the actual audio content is listed here.

Unlike the initial CID 101 release, this version has mostly the same tracks as the original LP release; i.e., it includes "Ferry" and "San José" and "(Tag)" (the orgasm discussion after "Two Tribes"), omits "Happy Hi" and "The Last Voice", has the short version of "Two Tribes", and has other minor sequencing and overdub differences.

If exact release date is unknown, disc matrix and UPC indicate this edition was pressed and issued circa 1988 / 1989.

Notes

This is one of the first US releases. It came in a longbox which mentions 'Printed in the U.S.A.' Unlike the later edition Welcome To The Pleasuredome whose disc and inserts were made and printed in the U.S.A., this edition's disc says 'Made in Japan', and the tray inlay says 'Printed in Japan'. A very similar edition comes with a disc that adds the text 'Manufactured By Victor Company Of Japan, Ltd'.

The master index on the back cover is inaccurate; the actual tracks are shown here. The CD mix differs from the LP in the following ways: "Well…" is not listed as a track; "Two Tribes" is the 'Annihilation' 12" mix instead of the 3:22 'for the victims of ravishment' LP version; the B-sides "The Last Voice" and "Happy Hi" are added; and several recordings are omitted: the songs "Ferry (Go)" and "San Jose", the orgasm discussion at the end of "Two Tribes", and the "life goes on day after day…" vocal overdub on "Snatch Of Fury (Stay)".
