Wrathwind by Ironstorm, released 22 April 2014 1. Wrathwind 2. Take The Wheel 3. Revenant 4. The Watcher 5. Dreamons 6. Come Back In Glory - Live. Cody Diehl I listen to this album every time I go out driving. It's got that old school Iron Maiden vibe but also sounds new and fresh. Love every second of it!
Wrathwind is the band’s first EP and includes five songs plus a live track, for a total of 32 minutes. From the very beginning of the album, as Take the Wheel litterally explodes and creates a power metal hype, we find Ironstorm making a stand for pure heavy metal. The pace is quick, the picking is fast, and the vocals sound incredible. The band knows exactly what metal is about, and they walk the talk. Listen for example to the excellent Revenant, a song that displays a catchy and aggressive guitar attack that would make any Anvil and Judas Priest’ imitator jealous.
The album opens with Wrathwind, a 2 minute long and unfortunately tedious keyboard instrumental with a few drums tossed in at the close that seems to go nowhere. Take The Wheel is definitely a better song, but the mix and engineering are rough filling this take-no-prisoners speed metal song with distractions.
Ironstorm, Leduc, Alberta. UPDATE: Over the last year, a number of Ironstorm members have become busy with other extra-curricular projects etc, and have a decided to move on from the band to pursue other paths. I wish them all the best and am sad to seem them go. They've helped developed Ironstorm into what it has become, which will be great grounds for a fresh start. I, by no means, am leaving this thing in the dust. I've said numerous times that "Good things take time to build".
Ironstorm – Wrathwind. Edmonton, Alberta’s Ironstorm have crafted an EP that combines a lot of elements. Power metal, speed metal, melodic death metal, all of it rolled into something that sounds not only cohesive, but explosive. Liber Necris define the concept of the album as the story of the life and death of earth through our own hate and rage. Although most of the time I would have dismissed this as the kind of dark hyperbole that black metal bands love so much, in this case there is some truth to it.
