Bass player and vocalist for King Crimson during 1970 who appeared on the "Lizard" album before embarking on a solo career.
Gordon Haskell (born 27 April 1946, in Verwood, England) is a pop, rock and blues music vocalist, songwriter, and bassist. He first gained recognition as a member of the British band Les Fleur de Lys. He sang on one of the songs of King Crimson's second album, then played bass and sang on their third album. After departing from King Crimson, he continued his musical career as a solo musician and gained international recognition in 2001 with his hit song How Wonderful You Are.
Gordon Haskell (born Gordon Hionidies, 27 April 1946, in Bournemouth, Dorset, England) was the bassist and vocalist in the transitional King Crimson line-up of 1970. He appeared on the album Lizard, but quit the group during rehearsals for live work. A school friend of Robert Fripp, they previously worked together in an earlier version of League of Gentlemen. Haskell's more folk oriented interests were in conflict with Crimson's sound, so he elected to leave.
I intend putting out the single ‘I’m still mad about you’ as a taster as soon as it’s ready. I am often asked to describe my music and it’s never been easy in an environment that has divided us all into categories The album is a songwriter at work. and any songwriter wants his songs to be popular. To confirm his belief that he is doing the job well. I believe the new album more than demonstrates that.
Gordon Haskell - Lady Wants to Know (2004). Gordon Haskell's The Lady Wants to Know. This is an excellent display of Gordon Haskell's knack for picking classy, laid-back tunes and delivering them with impeccable taste and great musicianship. Haskell makes some of the songs sound even better than the originals, in his discreet, unpretentious manner. His timbre is warm and has grown more sensuous with the years, like vintage wine. By the way, I relished this opportunity to rediscover Michael Franks the songwriter, as opposed to Michael Franks the singer, and to notice how gifted and effortless a composer he is. (for those unaware of it, this is an album of Michael Franks cover versions only). You may listen to these songs again and again (alone or with your girlfriend) and never tire of them.
