Markus Stockhausen (born May 2, 1957) is a German trumpeter and composer. His recordings and performances have typically alternated between jazz and chamber or opera music, the latter often in collaboration with his father, composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. Born in Cologne, he is the son of composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. At age four he appeared as "child at play" in his father's theatre piece Originale. He received his first piano lessons at age six, and at age twelve he began to play the trumpet
Possible Worlds is a finely sculpted work that elaborates on the many likenesses of composition and improvisation. A subtle balance of quiet ambience, contemporary European classical music, and electronics forges a shifting palette of timbres and textures from which Stockhausen's arching statements emerge.
Possible Worlds verifies that Markus Stockhausen has developed a personal vision by learning from his mentors, and in keeping with the Stockhausen tradition, Possible Worlds is, in part, a family affair. After repeated hearings, this aptly titled work continues to offer not only possible worlds, but also a world of possibilities. (Mark Kirschenmann). Tracks: 0. Possible Worlds.

In 2013, Markus Stockhausen & the Metropole Orkest was released by Intuition. His Wergo album Spaces & Spheres, with Mark Nauseef, Tara Bouman, Stefano Scodanibbio, and Ottaviucci, appeared later that year. Subsequently, the Stockhausen/Weber duo became a more active concern, and while the trumpeter/composer still worked with others, the duo became his primary project. Alba, their debut studio offering, was released by ECM in 2016.

Markus Stockhausen (b. 1957) is one of the few trumpet soloists who can move effortlessly between contemporary, classical music and modern jazz. For about 25 years he collaborated closely with his father, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, who has composed many beautiful works for him. Markus’s approach to the creation of intuitive music is influenced by post-bop, free jazz, world music, electronica, and ambient music, and takes advantage of his outstanding command of the instrument.
