Drum is the bold second album from Gold Class. Recorded at Melbourne’s Head Gap studios, Tropical Fuck Storm Studios and co-produced by Gareth Liddiard of The Drones, Drum sees Gold Class explore new territory in both songwriting and sonics. It’s the beat of your heart.
This outstanding Australian band powers their 2nd album with throbbing post-punk bass lines and stark, urgent vocal calls. Adam Curley’s voice is an intense beacon of emotional release, delivering palpitating demon-yelps of cathartic cleansing. Drum is an album of defiant motion and gut-wrenchingly hard passion; the kind of album that will send chills up your spine and jagged jolts of lightning down to your dancing feet. A large part of Drum's growth comes from Curley's increasingly sophisticated vocals, which take the lead on moments of gloomy beauty such as "Thinking of Strangers" and the aforementioned "Trouble Fu. It all makes for a more rounded - but still formidable - portrait of Gold Class' music.

Australian post-punk outfit Gold Class meld a variety of influences that, on paper, one wouldn’t really expect to make any sense. But as it turns out, their sophomore full-length, Drum certainly works. Drum does run a bit together, showing a somewhat limited bag of tricks as the album progresses. Truly enchanting moments are a little far and few between. But overall, it manages to hit a certain spot, offering the type of pleasantly aggressive, moderately dark and catchy material the genre tends to offer every now and then (like, well, a mid-tier Interpol album like Antics or something, honestly).
