The Twilights were an Australian rock and pop music group of the mid- to late 1960s. Alongside their own career successes, they are also notable for the inclusion of vocalist Glenn Shorrock, who later fronted Axiom, Esperanto and Little River Band, and guitarist Terry Britten who went on to become an internationally successful songwriter and producer, and wrote major hits for artists such as Cliff Richard and Tina Turner.

The Twilights (3) ‎– The Twilights. Label: Columbia ‎– 33-OSX-7779. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Mono. The Twilights do really well for their first long player, and while it's 99% covers, it's done excellently. These guys were master interpreters and would later prove to be swell songwriters themselves but here we get a glimpse of their repertoire of mostly contemporary British and American hits played with a lot of rhythm and a little soul. It's Dark" is a great beat tune the only original here, written by Peter Brideoak. Long Life" is a ballad, written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees and given to the band during recording.

It's not as compelling as some groups that never received a proper shot, but this compilation certainly proves the Twilights were a strong guitar pop band that could navigate the shifting fashions of the '60s.

In 1968, the Twilights released their final album, Once Upon A Twilight. Once Upon A Twilight was a critical success though sales were very low, signaling the beginning of a downward spiral for the group. The album is consistent and full of brilliant production quirks, being one of the very few Aussie albums to have a classic British psych-pop sound. Once Upon A Twilight is a classic pop-art album, that’s warm, friendly, and well worth a spin. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip.
