Roe Rire, Poor Gal. This song is by Uncle Dave Macon. Spoken: Hot dog! Over around here. Well Sir, last night I was talking with a fine looking gentleman, looked mighty sad. And I asked him, what was the matter with him? Said his brother had gone crazy. Now, I asked him how come he went crazy? Said, he lost his mind. And I asked him come he lost his mind? Said he was working down here at the round house and went crazy trying to spit in a corner.

Most of Macon's more famous pieces are in JSP's first set, but there are some scattered gems here, including the intricate waltz called "He Won the Heart of My Sarah Jane," the bluesy "Oh Lovin' Babe," some kinetic banjo on "Come on Buddie, Don't You Want to Go," and a pair of lovely fiddle and banjo instrumentals (with Sid Harkreader.

Uncle Dave Macon - "The Dixie Dewdrop" - is a pivotal artist in early country music. Influenced early in life by circus and vaudeville performers who passed through his family's hotel in Nashville, Dave was exposed to many styles of performance and in 1885 he met banjo player Joel Davidson and became captivated by the instrument. By the 1890s, Dave was entertaining stagecoach passengers with banjo tunes and comic antics from a homemade stage on the roof of the family's barn
