Chris Brown (vocals, keyboards) and Kate Fenner (vocals) were both founding members of the eight-member Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, who made a battle-of-the-bands appearance at the Masonic Temple in Toronto in 1985. The band was named after a dream that Brown had. The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir played the club circuit in Toronto, and continued to release cassettes independently. In total, they released three recordings between 1987 and 1990; the last, Sister Anthony, was produced by the legendary Bob Wiseman, and was the one that got the band noticed.

Kate Fenner, April 12, 2019. The Cameron House, Toronto. A rare Toronto appearance for the former homegirl, who's now been living in NYC half her life. Known to fans as the vocalist on the 2000 tour, she has a long and fruitful music history: as a vocalist in the R&B band from 1985-95, as one half of an eponymous duo with keyboardist H. Chris Brown, and now with three fine solo albums, the latest being 2017's Middle Voice.
The internally probing lyrics of Brown are accented by Fenner's highly distinguished and professionally rustic voice. As a vocal duo (highlighted by the addition of a previously unreleased studio version of "Pendulum Swing"), their partnership lends a soulful impression, similar to that of the Kantner/Slick collaborations of '70s era Jefferson Airplane. Incredibly mature, simple and thoughtful. More Chris Brown and Kate Fenner. Read Our Latest Coverage. Chris Brown and Kate Fenner.
