The Del Vikings were one of the rare doo wop groups from the 1950s to actually have two big radio hits, 1957’s Come Go with Me and Whispering Bells, and they had the talent to deliver even more hits, but internal squabbles and label confusions combined to derail the group’s commercial potential. Their recorded legacy is top-notch, though, and this 28-track overview does a good job of showing why the Del Vikings were among the best groups of the doo wop era. The two big hits are here along with solid versions of I’m Sitting on Top of the World and Cool Shake, among other gems

The Del-Vikings also known as The Dell-Vikings were an American doo-wop group that recorded several hit singles in the 1950s and continued to record and tour with various lineups in later decades. The group is notable for the hit songs "Come Go with Me" and "Whispering Bells", and for having been a successful racially mixed musical group during a period of time when such groups were rare.

The Del Vikings formed in 1955: they contained five young American Air Force men - Clarence Quick, Corinthian "Krips" Johnson, Chuck Jackson, Donald Backus and David Lerchey. In 1956, they won a song contest run by the Air Force and while stationed in Pittsburgh, won themselves a recording contract with Fee-Bee records, who released their records to Dot. These included their big hits "Come Go With Me" which became a million seller in 1957, and "Whispering Bells".

The Del Vikings' lineup was fairly fluid due to the nature of military service, and by early 1956, Robertson and Paterson were gone, transferred to Germany. Their replacements were Norman Wright (lead tenor) and David Lerchey (baritone). Yet another group lineup, with Joe Lopes filling in for David Lerchey, appeared alongside Fats Domino and the Diamonds in the movie The Big Beat in 1957. The Kripp Johnson version of the group, now known as the Versatiles and featuring Don Jackson, Chuck Jackson, Arthur Budd, and Ed Everette, kept recording, but without success, and by the end of 1957, Kripp Johnson was back with the Mercury Del-Vikings.
