Written-By – Gary Burton. The Gary Burton Quartet. Duster ‎(CD, Album, RE, RM).

In some ways, Duster can be considered one of the first fusion records. Vibraphonist Gary Burton had just added the young rock/blues guitarist Larry Coryell to his quartet (which also included bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Roy Haynes), and Coryell's influence can be felt throughout the performances. Highlights include Michael Gibbs' "Sweet Rain," Swallow's "General Mojo's Well Laid Plan," Coryell's exploratory and speedy "One, Two, 1-2-3-4," and Carla Bley's "Sing Me Softly of the Blues

Vibraphonist Burton was self-taught beginning at the age of six, later taking piano lessons during high school before attending the Berklee College Of Music between 1960-1961. He began his recording career at RCA, releasing his first album, 'NEW VIBE MAN IN TOWN' in 1961. His initial albums for the label were mostly composed of jazz standards, Swallow became his steady bassist beginning with 'THE GROOVY SOUND OF MUSIC,' an album of jazzed-up arrangements of the titular film's score

Gary Burton (born January 23, 1943) is an American jazz vibraphonist, composer, and educator. Burton developed a pianistic style of four-mallet technique as an alternative to the prevailing two-mallet technique. This approach caused him to be heralded as an innovator, and his sound and technique are widely imitated. He is also known for pioneering fusion jazz and popularizing the duet format in jazz, as well as being a major figure in music education from his 30 years at the Berklee College of Music.
