Canterbury is the third studio album by British heavy metal band Diamond Head. The album was recorded and released in 1983, reaching number 32 on the UK Albums Chart. This album was originally entitled Making Music (after the first track on the album) but later became Canterbury. The success of this album was initially stalled by the fact that the first 20,000 copies suffered vinyl-pressing problems, causing the LP to jump.

Borrowed Time (Diamond Head album). Borrowed Time is the second studio album by Diamond Head. The album was recorded in 1981 and released in 1982, reaching Number 24 on the UK album chart. In a 2008 interview, guitarist Brian Tatler announced that this was his favourite period with Diamond Head and that the band "seemed to be getting somewhere after six years of building".
Diamond Head is hardly the first metal band to lose a grand majority of their luster after their first album, nor were they the first band to ever sell out, but the group’s timeline serves as a perfect summation of the average band devolution. On the other hand, the group’s descent from grace is shockingly all their own. Starting with 1982’s Borrowed Time, the group started to ape radio rock tropes, leading to songs like Call Me and Borrowed Time sounding more like Foreigner than heavy metal. Completely devoid of substance, Canterbury is a infuriatingly nothingness of an album, with nothing going for it. It’s pure, unadulterated conformity, resulting in a bland, unenthusiastic, gray, and dull paste. The performances are as uninspired as the the songwriting, accompanied by a treble-based production that makes the record even more flat.
Diamond Head Canterbury. The first 20,000 copies of "Canterbury" to be printed suffered from vinyl-pressing problems, causing the LP to jump. A remastered version was released in October 2007 featuring three bonus tracks: 10. Makin' Music (extended) 11. Sucking My Love (live) 12. Andy Peebles Interview incl. To The Devil His Due". Recording information: Produced by Mike Shipley and Diamond Head.

Thus Diamond Head began recording the follow up to Borrowed Time less than a year after that album’s release and were in the position of having to write material specifically for a new album. There were three songs ( To the Devil His Due, Makin’ Music and Knight of the Swords ) already written, but that was just a start. Canterbury was eventually released on September 9, 1983 and did worse than Borrowed Time sales-wise. Perhaps the band had second-guessed what their fans wanted. Perhaps they didn’t care and were aiming higher. We’re here to tell you, however, that in spite of all the nonsense involved in making Canterbury, it is loaded with at least as many quality songs as its predecessor.
