In 1964, Liberty Records released three singles and an album, The Standells in Person at . The album was later re-issued as The Standells Live and Out of Sight. The band also appeared on The Munsters TV show, as themselves in the episode "Far Out Munster," performing "Come On and Ringo" and a version of The Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand". In late 1964, they signed with Vee Jay and released two singles in 1965. Later in the year they signed with MGM for one single. In the late 1980s, the Standells, with Tamblyn and Valentino, recorded and released an independent single featuring Tamblyn singing "60's Band" In 1999, the Standells, featuring Dodd, Valentino and Tamblyn, along with bass player Peter Stuart, p. 1001 appeared at the Cavestomp festival in New York, and their performance was subsequently released as an album called Ban.

For this volume in their series of Standells two-fers, label of reissue Big Beat wisely paired two subsidiary releases, the soundtrack of the 1967 film Riot on Sunset Strip (to which the band contributed two songs) and a brief rarities compilation. The first leads off with the title track, one of the Standells' brightest moments, then proceeds through nine tracks of low-grade yet occasionally intriguing teen-exploitation fare from a cast including the the Chocolate Watchband and the Sidewalk Sounds, plus a band named the Mugwumps that has nothing.
Prior to their success on Tower Records, the group was signed by Liberty Records and issued an album The Standells In Person At . s in 1964 (later re-released as The Standells Live and out of Sight). After having no success with Liberty they signed with Vee Jay in 1965 for two singles, one of which was produced by Sonny Bono Sonny & Cher. Cher did backup vocals on one of the songs The Boy Next Door. The group appeared in several movies, including Get Yourself a College Girl, performing their first Liberty recording The Shake and Riot on Sunset Strip, performing the films title song
