The High Llamas are an Anglo-Irish avant-pop band formed in London circa 1991. They were founded by singer-songwriter Sean O'Hagan, formerly of Microdisney, with drummer Rob Allum and ex-Microdisney bassist Jon Fell. O'Hagan has led the group since its formation. Their music is often compared to the Beach Boys, who he acknowledges as an influence, although more prominent influences were drawn from bossa nova and European film soundtracks.
The remixers manage to retain the late 60's/early 70's Beach Boys sound that the Llamas so lovingly re-create while at the same time adding their own distinctive touches. Mouse on Mars turns "Showstop Hip Hop" into a hiccuping carnival ride of happy bleeps and bloops, Cornelius sprinkles hi-tech fairy dust over "Homespin Rerun," and Kid Loco revamps "Homespin Rerun" (retitled "The Space Raid Remix") into a sleek techno track that breaks into a sunny acoustic guitar-spun melody about half way through.
Track 7 is an alternative view of "Tilting Windmills". Tracks 1 to 5, 6 & 7 - Original Versions from The High Llamas album "Cold And Bouncy". All tracks published by Sony, ATV Music Publishing.
The High Llamas make incredibly dynamic and textured music. Doubts? Listen to 1995s Giddeon Gaye, the album I think comes closest to reaching the 1966 ambitions Brian Wilson had with Smile. Giddeon Gaye is a masterpiece of pop melody and orchestration. With such richness in all the Llama's music, the echos, hues and bleeps of remixing only highlight these colors. This album avoids traps most remix albums fall into: putting songs under a filmy treble, Listen to the endless tunnel of "Mini-Management. The first few listens of "Lollo Rosso" impressed me, however it wasn't until I sat down and submirsed myself in it (as opposed to having it playing in the background whilst mashing buttons on the Playstation) that I truly appreciated it fully. This is music that complements afterglow mornings - eating omlettes on the back porch.
Cold and Bouncy is the fourth studio album by British-Irish avant-pop band the High Llamas, released on 27 January 1998 on V2 Records. According to bandleader Sean O'Hagan, the title refers to electronica's "paradoxical" combination of "cold" or digital sounds and "bouncy" rhythms
