My guitar teacher wants me to try to improvise over songs, and he said to start with songs in A minor. Mar 23, 2010, 4:05 PM. Like. serenacrook and eline.
Alicia Keys' debut album, Songs in A Minor, made a significant impact upon its release in the summer of 2001, catapulting the young singer/songwriter to the front of the neo-soul pack. Critics and audiences were captivated by a 19-year-old singer whose taste and influences ran back further than her years, encompassing everything from Prince to smooth '70s soul, even a little Billie Holiday

Alicia Keys Format: DVD Audio. I would love to see Alicia do an album of just her singing her own songs with little more than a piano, bass, and drums for accompaniment, as in the "Unplugged" series of concerts. Just so you know where I'm coming from, I loved Mariah Carey's first 3 albums, but after she started doing a lot of hip-hop and dance music, she lost me.
Alicia originally signed to Columbia Records and gave us a fleeting glance into her talents on the ‘Men In Black’ soundtrack way back when. Alicia’s debut set finally gets to reach the masses, having being rescued by former Arista head honcho Clive Davis, who has given it a home at his increasingly credible new set up J Records. And reach the masses it has, having raced to the top of the US pop charts selling in excess of 250,00 copies in the process. Remarkably the album has achieved this without a hint of compromise . Balancing the album on the fine line between contemporary and retrospective (highlighted by collaborations with Kandi and Isaac Hayes) has been an act of pure genius.
This week marks the 10th anniversary release of Alicia Keys major label debut Songs In A Minor. A first-release that showcased not only one of the best albums of the last decade but one of the best artists too. New York’s finest came straight from Hell’s Kitchen, cooking up a heavenly sound. Alicia ruled the world of music with her huge, platinum classic. Unlike most big albums, it didn’t end there however. Alicia Keys kept going with us on Rock Wit U and made a name for herself with album favourites like Jane Doe or the freeing Caged Bird. Through Troubles, The Life, Never Felt This Way and Goodbye, Alicia went through it all on the 2001 release that lasted beyond the four seasons. Mr. Man showed more of this woman’s worth, as did the floating Butterflyz and the unquestionable Why Do I Feel So Sad. Even the hidden gem Loving You Is Easy was a real bonus.
American singer Alicia Keys has released seven studio albums, two live albums, one remix album, seven box sets, 32 singles as lead artist, and two promotional singles. Throughout her career, Keys has sold over 22 million albums in the US, and over 42 million albums worldwide, making Keys one of the most successful female R&B acts. Keys released her debut album Songs in A Minor (2001) through J Records, after having had previous recording deals with Columbia and Arista
