Paul Frederic Simon (born October 13, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Simon's musical career has spanned seven decades with his fame and commercial success beginning as half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel (originally known as Tom & Jerry), formed in 1956 with Art Garfunkel. Simon was responsible for writing nearly all of the pair's songs including three that reached number one on the . singles charts: "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", and "Bridge over Troubled Water".

The Concert in Central Park, released in February 1982 on Warner Bros. Records, is the first live album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. It was recorded in September 1981 at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of more than 500,000 people. Proceeds went toward the redevelopment and maintenance of the park, which had deteriorated due to lack of municipal funding.

Under a nearly full moon in Queens’ Flushing Meadows Corona Park on a gentle Saturday (Sept. 22) evening, Paul Simon - who brought poetic detail and literary scope to popular music as part of Simon & Garfunkel before embarking on a stylistically adventurous solo career that netted 21 Billboard Hot 100 hits and two Grammy album of the year wins - delivered the final show of his farewell tour. He puts on a hell of a live show, performing emotively and reading each lyric like a master thespian. Classical sextet yMusic augments his songs with a pointed urgency (particularly on the In the Blue Light arrangement of Can’t Run But), and his rollicking rock band bursts with an irrepressible energy on upbeat numbers like Late In the Evening, which saw Simon incorporate a bit of Little Richard’s Lucille, and Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard.

Today, April 24, 2019, marks the 5-year anniversary of the Flint Water Crisis and, unfortunately, the majority of residents are still suffering. While households are still waiting for their pipes to be replaced, they are desperately in need of clean water.

Paul Simon was always an uneasy folksinger, a role his record company tried to push him into starting with Simon & Garfunkel's debut album. Before that, along with New York City pal and musical partner Art Garfunkel, Simon formed Tom & Jerry, an Everly Brothers-style duo, in the late '50s that led to their folk career the next decade  . Simon's story isn't complete without Simon & Garfunkel, which is why we included their five studio records in the following list of Paul Simon Albums Ranked Worst to Best. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel parted ways in 1970, but they remained tied to each other personally and professionally. On-again-off-again friends and collaborators, they reunited several times in their careers only to discover they couldn't work together after all, certainly not beyond short-term projects. A year later, Simon & Garfunkel played a concert in Central Park together, breaking all existing records by pulling in an audience of 500,000 people. After that they went on a world tour, and released a double album and an HBO special of their Central Park show. But the reunion was not to last. They scrapped plans for an album of new material together, and Simon kept the songs for his own solo album. In 2003, he was on stage with Simon again, accepting a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and playing Sounds of Silence on the live show.

Simon wrote and recorded the album, Paul Simon in 1970. The album garnered global critical acclaim and its solo figured in the Top 5 in America and Britain. Simon launched his pop-folk album, There Goes Rhymin' Simon in 1973. Simon is a recepient of 12 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement Award. He received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in 1986. Simon was initiated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

One thing Simon & Garfunkel never did much of was tour, so a Paul Simon solo tour, following two commercially successful solo albums, was one more way for Simon to distance himself from the duo and, simultaneously, by performing songs like "The Boxer" and "Homeward Bound," to reclaim his songwriting catalog. Reflecting the musical explorations he had pursued since S & G, Simon brought along Brazilian group Urubamba and gospel group the Jessy Dixon Singers.
