As Bachman himself puts it, Grey-Black Green is the most fucked up sounding one. Basho’s model states that D minor (or frog minor?) is equivalent to grey-black green, that the associated mood is anguish death, and full sweetness, and that it is the most solid model, with tight boundaries. Bachman restrains himself to D minor through the entire album, traveling through grey and black and finally ending in green. As Basho already explained, the journey is dark and full of anguish, yet emits a genuine sweetness throughout.

Guitarist and former wunderkind Daniel Bachman, at 26, can no longer be considered “precocious. On even his earliest recordings Bachman’s guitar prowess and compositional voice were staggeringly mature. His growth has been continual and, frankly, amazing – the ultimate product of this growth, 2015’s River, showed a phenomenal level of maturity and, in turn, continued to convert faithful. His new (2016) self-titled album continues that staggering growth – in composition, sound, and technique – and offers a sort of trapped in amber glimpse of where he presently stands.

Daniel Bachman has averaged one album a year since 2012, an impressive testament to his hard work. He's always writing, always practicing, always touring, always relocating to various parts of the East Coast (currently, south of Richmond) for inspiration. But more importantly, he's always growing. With Daniel Bachman, he presents the most rounded version of his guitar music, and there's comfort in knowing that the next album will likely continue that thread.

The Grey Album is a mashup album by Danger Mouse, released in 2004. It mixes an a cappella version of rapper Jay-Z's The Black Album with samples from The Beatles' LP The Beatles, commonly known as "The White Album". The Grey Album gained notoriety when EMI attempted to halt its distribution despite approval of the project from Jay-Z and the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

Audio is recommended for this feature. Just hit listen & begin. It’s easy to see why Daniel Bachman, the 24 year-old Virginia native, has chosen to record here. Previous releases from the finger-picking visionary were born at Forest Floor, as is his latest and last album on Tompkins Square, Jesus I’m a Sinner. The one room studio is unexpectedly well stocked. It's absolutely off the beaten path, yet no less legitimate for it.
