Nettie Washington Douglass and son Kenneth B. Morris, Jr. represent a remarkable living history. They are direct descendants of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington. Through the union of Ms. Douglass’ mother, Nettie Hancock Washington (granddaughter of Booker T. Washington) and her father, Dr. Frederick Douglass III (great grandson of Frederick Douglass), Douglass and Morris have united the bloodlines of two of the most important names in American history.

A great soul album that should have made Frederick Knight a huge star, ‘I’ve Been Lonely For So Long’ contains much more than its hit title track. Published on. July 15, 2019. Still best known for the title track of this superb album, I’ve Been Lonely For So Long, Knight emerged from Birmingham, Alabama, in the early 70s, with a mostly gentle, intelligent soulful style. He released three singles before signing with Stax in ’72 and dropping the bombshell that was ‘I’ve Been Lonely For So Long’ – though this was one warm, nice-to-be-near explosion.

Frederick Squire has the blues. On his debut solo effort, the r - one-half of the now defunct East Coast band Shotgun & Jaybird - sings tales of sadness, death and redemption, accompanied by acoustic and electric guitar and spare touches of piano and accordion. It's a quiet, unassuming debut by a talented songwriter.

Frederick brings a CD with "Hyohyo to Emotion" and two live tracks taken from their concert held at Kobe World Kinen Hall. Frederick brings a CD with "Hyohyo to Emotion" and two live tracks taken from their concert held at Kobe World Kinen Hall.

Frederick cut his recordings in a tiny, homemade studio called Time Traxx, located on 23rd and Superior in the downtown Cleveland area. Prior to the Dazz Band, Levert, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's chart assaults, Frederick's "Gentle (Calling Your Name)" held the distinction of being the most popular R&B/soul recording ever.

This story appears in the March/April 2017 issue of National Geographic History magazine. This was the case of Prussia, a former duchy that in the early 1700s emerged from the shadow of Poland and the Holy Roman Empire.
