White Star Line isn't afraid to take chances, as the harmony vocals during the chorus sound more like a cartoonish ogre than capable musicians. White Star Lines for dreamers," lead singer and songwriter Luca Maoloni sings as the song veers into a '70s keyboard-oriented vibe. It's the album's first shining moment since the group takes the time and care to see the song through to the finish. Year of the Horse" has a '70s glam rock guitar sound to it à la David Bowie while a winding bassline works underneath it.
The original White Star Line merged with two other small lines in 1864, The Black Ball Line and The Eagle Line, to form a conglomerate, the Liverpool, Melbourne and Oriental Steam Navigation Company Limited. This did not prosper and White Star broke away. White Star concentrated on Liverpool to New York City services. Like many other shipping lines, the White Star Line suffered heavy losses during the First World War which began in August 1914, including some of their most prestigious vessels. The first major war loss was of RMS Oceanic of 1899, which was converted into an armed merchant cruiser and ran aground near the Shetland Islands due to navigational error in September 1914.
The White star Line was no exception. Only their buttons and cap badges were different, and both of those were even based off of the British Royal Navy's own buttons and badges. The difference in buttons was merely that the house flag had replaced the "fouled anchor" of the British Royal Navy, and the only variation in the cap badges was the same. Part of the reason for this was because many of the officers were reserve naval officers. Tropical or "Summer" Dress: For tropical dress, both the jacket and pants were white, and often, the shoes as well. The jacket was high "Russian" collared, and was single breasted, with only 5 buttons. Shoulder boards were worn with this instead of cuff braid on the sleeves.
