The album could have been the start of something big, but just before it was released Riechmann was stabbed to death in a Dsseldorf bar fight, a senseless waste of his young life and a crime that deprived us of a promising talent.

Got it. + add. album.

Wolfgang Riechmann started his musical career in 1966. After playing in a school band with Michael Rother and Wolfgang Flür, later famous with Kraftwerk and Neu, he then became member of an other Düsseldorf (Germany) located band called "Streetmark". It was end of 1977 when Riechmann started working on his solo career. The tragic end of Wolfgang Riechmann's life before his solo debut was released inevitably colors how to listen to Wunderbar, but taken on its own merits, the album is an enjoyable if not necessarily classic effort in experimental '70s German music, a blending of rock and synth instrumentation at once playful and slightly spooky.

This album is a mixed bag, good in some parts and not so good in others. Tracks 1 & 5 are good examples of everything that is wrong with synth music, new agey cheesy synth-pop. Tracks 2 & 3 are the strongest tracks here. Abendlicht is a nice atmospheric track with constant drum beats, Weltweit is classic Berlin school reminiscent of Klaus Schulze's 70's era. Himmelblau is neither good or bad, it never fully develops into anything special, not something I would revisit. Traumzeit is pretty short dark ambient track.1. Wunderbar (1/5)2. Abendlicht (4.5/5)3. Weltweit (3.5/5)4. Silberland (3/5)5. Himmelblau (1/5)6. Traumzeit (4/5)Overall: 3/5
The album is new agey actually, just look at the track titles. And there's nothing wrong with it, it's still beautiful. I would never rate it as "cheesy"
