The molars or molar teeth are large, flat teeth at the back of the mouth. They are more developed in mammals. They are used primarily to grind food during chewing. The name molar derives from Latin, molaris dens, meaning "millstone tooth", from mola, millstone and dens, tooth. In humans, the molar teeth have either four or five cusps. Adult humans have 12 molars, in four groups of three at the back of the mouth.

First molars are the most highly developed and largest of the molars and are more likely to have minor and supplementary cusps in addition to their major cusp. The maxillary molars have only three major cusps, one minor cusp, and sometimes one supplementary cusp. 1. The buccal surface of a maxillary right first molar. It releases minerals such as calcium and phosphate, which the tooth uses to replace what was lost during the decay and repair itself. The technology, developed by experts at Queen Mary University of London, is set to do away with the need for mercury fillings, experts hope. Hailed as a revolution in dental care, the compound - known as bioactive glass - not only blocks cavities but repairs bacterial damage. It fills the gaps with minerals, preventing bacteria from entering tiny holes between the filling and the tooth that can lead to more cavities. Developed by experts at Queen Mary University of London, it releases minerals such as calcium and phosphate, which the tooth uses to replace what was lost during the decay. The new technology eliminates the need to use amalgam - what is commonly used in fillings - by offering aesthetic white fillings which help heal the tooth.
Decay most often occurs in your back teeth (molars and premolars). These teeth have lots of grooves, pits and crannies, and multiple roots that can collect food particles. As a result, they're harder to keep clean than your smoother, easy-to-reach front teeth. If you don't clean your teeth soon after eating and drinking, plaque forms quickly and the first stages of decay can begin. Not getting enough fluoride. Fluoride, a naturally occurring mineral, helps prevent cavities and can even reverse the earliest stages of tooth damage.
If you have decayed molars, then braces is NOT an option until after. Braces are to correctly align the teeth, not to help with decay. Please see a dentist to evaluate and give you the options of taking care of the cavities with filings or crowns. Answered: 15 Apr 2013. This question is about.
Sealing molars quickly keeps tooth decay from gaining a foothold in your child’s teeth. Most children won’t need to have their baby teeth sealed. However, if your child is at especially high risk for tooth decay, sealing baby teeth is a viable option. Baby teeth hold a space for adult teeth to emerge, so it’s important that your child doesn’t lose them earlier than necessary. Speak with your dentist if you’re an adult considering sealants for the first time. If you’re teeth aren’t decayed but have deep pits and grooves, you may be a good candidate for dental sealants. It’s a pain-free process, and the results speak for themselves.
