I enjoyed listening to this album, however, it was definitely missing a lot for me. All the up beat, progressive elements from their last album. No screams, no guitar solos, no heavier parts at all really. A Head Full Of Moonlight was perfect, this just falls flat for me for those reasons. I guess it was intended to be a much softer album, and that's fine, it's just definitely not the Good Tiger I fell in love with. 7 months ago. they've definitely improved since their debut.
With both guitarists being alumni from prog metallers The Safety Fire, it came as no surprise that Good Tiger’s debut, A Head Full of Moonlight bore a strong instrumental resemblance to TSF. We Will All Be Gone is a much cleaner break, with a very different instrumental attitude on display
01. The Devil Thinks I'm Sinking (00:00) 02. Float On (04:05) 03. Such a Kind Stranger (07:40) 04. Blueshift (11:52) 05. Salt of the Earth (15:42) 06.
I should mention that We Will All Be Gone is also more serious. Good Tiger have put on their big boy pants and amped up the existential crises. Each of the three singles puts out variations on a survival theme - (metaphorical) drowning and (metaphorical) choking. Meanwhile, an abundance of minor keys cast their sombre cloud. We’re treated to shallow electronic baths ( Blueshift ) and the occasional pretty parts, which end up as lighter plucking or attempts to make a gap in the cloud. I had to squint my eyes at the homogeneous mass that was formed by Good Tiger’s misled attempts at maturity. I get it, the album’s supposed to be darker. That doesn’t excuse songs from sharing the exact same amounts of aggression and newfound angst. Just because Float On is 10% heavier doesn’t mean that it portrays something different from The Devil Thinks I’m Sinking, which unfortunately has a very similar shouty chorus.
Good Tiger, however, forge their own path. Blending their influences in a manner that defies lazy classification sets them apart from their contemporaries, imbuing everything they do with a distinctive sound and feel, and with We Will All Be Gone, Good Tiger have dramatically built upon their stunning debut, 2015's A Head Full Of Moonlight. On February 9th, Good Tiger will release their sophomore full-length, We Will All Be Gone, via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.
Good Tiger's sophomore effort was one that I didn't really know about until I checked album release schedules that had this album on it, and I was intrigued, especially after learning about involvement from Tesseract and looking at the very unique album cover which is very pink (you just don't get a lot of album covers in metal or rock. that are mostly pink, especially that variation of the color). Tracks such as the opening duo of songs"The Devil Thinks I'm Sinking" and "Float On" do great at showing the band's strengths, such as good songwriting and a wide range vocal performance from frontman Elliott Coleman, but it's tracks later on in the album like "Salt Of The Earth", "Such A Kind Stranger", and especially "Just Shy", that do.
Will All Be Gone, Good Tiger have dramatically built upon their stunning debut, 2015's A Head Full Of Moonlight. I think that what a musician wants to do musically is always pretty fluid and can change from day to day," states guitarist Derya "Dez" Nagle. Going into our second record, we wanted to focus more on songwriting rather than specifically on any kind of wow factor, instrumentally or production-wise. We wanted the songs to speak, and everything we did was serving that purpose. This is evident after even a cursory listen to We Will All Be Gone, the.
