My lover's got humour She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshipped her sooner. If the heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week. Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life. No Masters or Kings When the Ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am human Only then I am clean Ooh oh.

Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life. Speaking with The Irish Times, Hozier spoke about the matters of the heart and the phrase ‘Deathless death’ in the chorus: I found the experience of falling in love or being in love was a death, a death of everything.
The track, "Take Me To Church", was released on Sept 16, 2013 by Hozier (full name, Andrew Hozier Byrne) on his debut 4-track EP. The track was written in the attic of his parent's home in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland following a difficult break-up with his then-girlfriend. The music video, directed by Brendan Canty, centers on a same-sex relationship between 2 men and a violent homophobic backlash: the video caused an online media storm when it went viral on social media.
He released a solo EP, Take Me to Church, in 2013 using his stage name Hozier, and when a video for the powerful title track, which directly addresses gay discrimination in the Catholic Church, went viral on YouTube and Reddit, he found himself with an international audience. A second EP, From Eden, appeared in the spring of 2014 and in September of that year, Columbia released his eponymous debut album.
